For 25 years, the mission of the Carr Center has been to leverage the essence and power of African and African-American art to inspire, entertain, challenge and educate. With the 2017-2018 Splash Series, the Carr Center is building upon that mission with more music, more art, more venues, and more excitement. The Splash Series is dynamic and fluid. Its only constant is to follow the lead of the city from which it was born. Its only goal is to create greater engagement between artists and their audience.
The Carr Center Network of Community Hubs: To house our multidisciplinary arts programming, the Carr Center has brought together multiple collaborative partners to form a constellation of venues stretching across urban and suburban neighborhoods. It’s designed specifically to provide a unique, up close and personal experience between artist and audience.
The Carr Center Splash series is made up of 7 community hubs located across the Metro Detroit area:
Hannan House – The CARR Center Administrative Offices (4750 Woodward Ave, Detroit)
Carr Center Gallery (1505 Woodward Ave, Detroit)
Garden Theater (3929 Woodward Ave., Detroit)
Plymouth Educational Center – Carr Center Arts Academy (1460 E Forest Ave, Detroit, MI 48207)
Christ Church Cranbrook (470 Church Rd, Bloomfield Hills)
First Congregational Church (33 E. Forest Ave., Detroit)
Ste. Anne de Detroit (1000 Ste. Anne St, Detroit)
The Carr Center is evolving into an arts organization unlike anything seen in the city of Detroit with its sights on a national presence. We are on a mission to inspire, entertain, challenge and educate everyone who visits. Seeking greater opportunities for growth and advancement with creative and exciting programming that reaches broader communities, the Carr Center has created something new, the Network of Community Hubs, a blend of educational, visual and performing arts venues to reach wider audiences. These distinguished venues will be home to our three core programs, Carr Center Presents; Carr Center Arts Academy; and Carr Center Artist Hub.
