The Carr Center hosts four academies dedicated to the arts. The Jazz Academy, the Visual Art Academy (including Art in the Studio/Art in the Park), and the Summer Dance Intensive with Debbie Allen and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA). The academies serve students from age 7 - 18+. Students will be able to hone in on their talents and passions with high level courses that will help develop the budding artists with an experience that will last a lifetime.
This is a rigorous program that exposes students to every aspect of jazz musical skills including improvisation, theory, music history and performance. Plus students will receive enhanced one-on-one instruction.
Visual Art Academy
This academy will have students in the studio working with a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.
Summer Dance Intensive
The summer dance intensive will have instruction in ballet, modern, tap, hip-hop and African dance. It will teach dancers at varying levels from the young dancer starting out to the professional who wants to learn from the legendary Debbie Allen and her master teachers from DADA.
These disciplines are hard to find in the city of Detroit and are often undervalued. These courses feature some of Detroit’s finest master teachers and will give students a holistic training that will catapult their creativity.
