The Awakening Continues!
Our Annual Young Artists Competition. Open to students in the metro Detroit area grades 6-12. Competition categories include Music, Dance, Visual and Literary Arts. The winning pieces are all featured in a special Carr Center Gallery exhibition in May. Cash prizes are also awarded. 

 

Saturday Arts Academy:
Free introduction to Dance and Instrumental Music classes for all Metro Detroit students, grades 6-8, at Detroit School of Arts every Saturday from 10:00am-12:00pm. Registration required. No experience necessary. Presented in partnership with The College for Creative Studies and Mosaic Youth Theater.

 

 

RAMP-UP (Rigorous Arts Mentorship Program)
Students attending Spain and John R. King middle schools in Detroit are paired with professional mentors from The Carr Center in Dance and Instrumental Music, preparing them for more advanced studies. Presented in partnership with DPSCD.

Detroit Dance Day
This annual program features dance majors from the University of Michigan in a matinee performance in the Ford Theater at Detroit School of Arts. The performance is followed by an invitation-only Master Class, open to area High School dance students.

 

JazzED Detroit:
The Carr Center is proud to be a participating partner of JazzED Detroit. This collaboration brings five of Detroit’s top jazz organizations together to create a hub of music education resources for students. Whether you are just starting out or have years of experience under your belt, you can easily find new ways to grow your skills. From Masterclass videos taught by the city’s leading performers to JazzEd Tracks where you play alongside them, we provide easy access to the top jazz resources in Detroit.
