A FATHER’S DAY CONCERT

Rodney Whitaker is a brilliant jazz bass player. He is considered one of the foremost double bass players in the United States. He is the Director of Jazz Studies at Michigan State University, former Director of Jazz @ Wharton Center, a former member of Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra and for over 15 years, the Resident Jazz Artist at the Carr Center.
A student and master of the Duke Ellington song book, Rodney will use this Online Father’s Day Event to pay his respects to the great composer Duke Ellington, Billy Strahorn and others.. The concert will feature his highly talented daughters, recording artist Rockelle Whitaker and drummer Sarah Whitaker. Gifted trombonist Michael Dease will perform and there will even be an appearance by Jamerson Whitaker, Rodney’s 11 year old grandson to help celebrate.
The concert will premiere as a Carr Center Presents Online Event.
The first performance will stream on Detroit Public Television, dptv.org on Sunday June 21, Fathers Day, @ 1pm.
There will be an Encore Presentation that same day @ 6pm on the Carr Center YouTube channel as well as the Carr Center facebook page.
