Rising Jazz Star Camille Thurman, in concert with the MSU Bebop Spartans, in the acoustic intimacy of The Carr Center Performance Studio on Saturday March 4th @ 7:30 PM
This concert is part of our continuing 10th year of collaboration with The Michigan State University College of Music and the MSU Federal Credit Union Jazz Artist in Residence program.
Camille Thurman is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist. Described as “fluid and powerful on the tenor saxophone and highly inventive as a vocalist,” she also plays bass clarinet, flute, and piccolo. Thurman is a two-time winner of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award and a winner of the Fulbright Scholars Cultural Ambassador Grant.
Part two of an original 3-part series, VIBE SESSIONS is an eclectic, intimate LIVE music, art and poetry experience… curated and hosted from the inspired mind of Detroit’s legendary poet, jessica Care moore, featuring HESTON on Saturday March 18th @ 7:30 PM.
For VIBE SESSIONS, Heston, will highlight his latest project “ART IS THE SHOW … Music. Art. Life”, a combination music and visual art showcase that seamlessly blends all his creativity into one performance
Endea Owens one of Jazz’s most vibrant emerging artists, is a Detroit-raised Recording Artist, Bassist, and Composer. She was once a student in the Carr Center Arts Academy. She is a graduate of Detroit School of Arts. Endea has been mentored by Jazz Icons the likes of Marcus Belgrave, Rodney Whitaker, and Ron Carter.
Endea has toured and performed with Wynton Marsalis, Jennifer Holliday, Diana Ross, Rhonda Ross, Solange, Jon Batiste, Jazzmeia Horn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Steve Turre to name a few.
In 2018, Endea graduated from The Juilliard School, and joined the Late Show with Stephen Colbert as a member of the house band, Stay Human. Since then, Endea has won an Emmy, Grammy Award, and a George Foster Peabody Award. Endea’s work has appeared on Jon Batiste’s Grammy Award-winning album “We Are”, Oscar-nominated film Judas and the Black Messiah, and H.E.R’s widely acclaimed Super Bowl LV performance.
On Saturday March 25th Endea brings her rising star home to Detroit and The Carr Center Performance Studio for a special concert that will be a Tribute to Rodney Whitaker, one of three concerts planned to celebrate The Man, The Mentor and The Musician. The other 2 concerts will feature Bradon Rose on April 27th and Ben Williams on April 29th.
