Jazz great Marcus Belgrave will become the latest Detroit music figure to be memorialized in the city’s theater district.
The late trumpeter will be honored with Marcus Belgrave Avenue, a ceremonial renaming of John R at Madison and Center streets — just down the block from Aretha Franklin Way and around the corner from a new Stevie Wonder mural gracing Music Hall.
The new signage, approved by Detroit City Council, will be unveiled at 1 p.m. Thursday, ahead of this weekend’s Detroit Jazz Festival.
