The Gathering Orchestra, the Carr Center’s critically acclaimed young, professional artist development fellowship program, under the direction of our Resident Artist in Jazz, Professor Rodney Whitaker, will begin a new Detroit Residency at Detroit School of Arts this coming May.

Following a year long hiatus, The Gathering Orchestra Octet will be in residence at the school from May 3rd through May 6th. Rehearsing their own work and mentoring the school’s young musicians while preparing for a culminating concert that will Livestream to invited schools throughout Detroit and it’s surrounding areas.

The fellowship, created out of the vision of our former Artistic Director, the late great Geri Allen is a two-year program. Fellows rehearse and perform with their mentors on standards, large ensemble classics, new music and their own original compositions. The objective of this program is to support the development of young jazz artists in their musicianship and as composers, music conductors, and entrepreneurs.
