In March 2007 & 2008, The Carr Center presented our “Jazz at the Carr Center” Series with Resident Artist in Jazz, Rodney Whitaker and the MSU Professors of Jazz. The concerts celebrated some of Detroit’s finest female jazz vocalists, Alma Smith, Ursula Walker, Shahida Nurullah, Naima Shambourguer and Sonny Wilkerson.

Our community media partner WRCJ 90.9 will broadcast “Women In Jazz”, a newly edited version of these memorable concerts in celebration of Women’s History Month and the outstanding contributions made by these artists to Detroit’s Jazz History.
